Storm Boy felt the excitement and wonder of it; he often sat on the shore all day with his knees up and his chin cupped in his hands. Sometimes he wished he'd been born an ibis or a pelican.

Review

Based on the eponymous 1964 children’s novel by the Australian author Colin Thiele, the story follows Storm Boy, a boy living in the Coorong region of South Australia with his father, Hide-Away Tom, and an Australian Aboriginal man called Fingerbone. The boy finds a pelican and the two quickly become friends. The story is charming and conveys an important message about conservationism.

Narrative In-game narrative

The vast majority of the game revolves around the boy running around the vast expanse of nature, with narrative overlaid on the screen. There are also some short mini-games surrounding different aspects of the story. The overall atmosphere is very relaxing, as most mini-games don’t really have any objectives and the player can keep playing them until they get tired of it. The game is a budget release, so some aspects of it, such as the controls in certain mini-games, aren’t very polished.

Conclusion

A short and relaxing game with a positive message.
