Review

In this quirky puzzle game, the player assumes the role of a 18th century detective and must solve a series of bizarre interconnected cases. The core gameplay loop involves collecting clues by interacting with the crime scenes and using said words in piecing together the narrative.

Gameplay Collecting clues from the crime scene

The setting is pretty interesting and the cartoonish hand-drawn pixel art style almost feels a tad comedic and is reminiscent of retro point and click adventures. I really enjoyed the deduction aspect of the game, where players use all of the clues to piece together a Mad Libs-style puzzle. Sometimes the cases had a tad too many clues to keep track of, particularly people's names, and some cases also required some backtracking.

Conclusion

A quirky detective puzzle game.

DLC Reviews

There are two DLCs for the game.

The Spider of Lanka

This is a prequel story taking place on the exotic island of Lanka, where the player unravels a plot of royal political intrigue. The gameplay is the same as that of the main game but with a more exotic backdrop.

The Lemurian Vampire

The second prequel story links the previous DLC with the events of the main game. The story takes place right after the last DLC where the characters are shipwrecked on a mystical island. There are some gameplay additions, such as being able to collect clues across time, but the overall gameplay remains the same.
