Review

In this tender and charming game about family and food, the story follows a Tamil expat couple who immigrate to Canada to start a new life. The story follows the family they struggle with settling down in their new environment.

Venba Immigrant family

The core gameplay involves trying to figure out recipes from an old recipe book; there is a puzzle element to the game as the player has to try to figure out what the missing portion of the recipes say. The gameplay is quite short but is interesting, especially if you’re a fan of Indian and South Asian cuisine. The story is very meaningful and, as an immigrant, hits quite close to home; the entire story arc of Kavin’s struggles to assimilate into Canadian culture while keeping his cultural roots is very relatable. Both the colourful artstyle and the amazing soundtrack are tasteful and contribute much to the wholesome nature of the game.
