I am standing on five million dollars. The largest grand prize in entertainment history.
I sometimes watch trashy TV with my girlfriend and we decided to watch Beast Games, a game show made by the popular YouTuber MrBeast. A thousand participants participate in various challenges for the largest pool of money in gameshow history.
Beast Games is peak Zoomer entertainment featuring many antics and gimmicks from MrBeastâs YouTube videos, such as crazy giveaways and game theory bribe situations where players are put into difficult moral and strategic positions. The show definitely focuses on creating constant hype and excitement but can get a tad boring after a while; the plot twists also feel a bit forced and predictable at times.
As with all game shows, the contestants are an important aspect and this show actually does a great job highlighting individual contestants and creating narratives for them. There are some very obnoxious people, such as the Habibi Brothers (who bullied a girl into eliminating herself), Mia (generally annoying and snarky), and JC (a greedy player who still wanted to be liked by the people he backstabbed). There are also many characters which I liked, such as Akira (who honestly reminded me of a Biblical character in his ordeals), Twana (a great leader), and Queen (someone who seems really chill). Watching the interpersonal interactions is sometimes more interesting than watching the players play the games. I especially enjoyed watching the different tactics players used in the games.
A guilty pleasure kind of show.
