I want to beat the shit out of you right now.

It wouldn't do you any good. I've got the shit beat out of me a lot of times. I just replenish with more shit.

Review

The legal drama follows Billy McBride (Billy Bob Thornton), a disgraced lawyer who was a named partner at a white-shoe law firm and who now works as an ambulance chaser. McBride receives a new case against his old firm and their client, an arms manufacturer.

The show spans the entire trial, where the mystery of the case slowly unravels. The writing is very solid. McBride feels very visceral because he’s a deeply flawed character who doesn’t always make the best choices. McBride’s situation, such as his supporting counsel, which includes a small-time DUI lawyer (Nina Arianda) and a part-time escort (Tania Raymonde), makes it seem like really a David vs Goliath situation. My favourite supporting characters are Nina Arianda’s feisty small-time lawyer and William Hurt’s nefarious Cooperman, the head of McBride’s previous law firm.

While the story is very simple, the writing is succinct with good pacing. Like all good legal dramas, the dialogue is very engaging.

Conclusion

A really solid legal drama.
