Oh my god, they killed Kenny!

You bastards!

Review

South Park follows four children: Kyle Broflovski, Stan Marsh, Kenny McCormick, and Eric Cartman. The story follows their misadventures in the titular remote town in Colorado.

The story has everything, from mecha Barbara Streisand (“Mecha-Streisand”) to a boxing match between Jesus and the Devil, to an entire episode about genetic engineering. The humour is dark and hilarious, with numerous offside jokes and bits, especially from Cartman (Trey Parker). The animation style is a slight upgrade from the original short films created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone in university. There were so many memorable characters, from the sexual Chef (Isaac Hayes) to the effeminate Mr. Garrison (Trey Parker). I don’t know how they managed it, but they even got George Clooney to voice a gay dog and Jay Leno to voice a cat.

While the episodes are hilarious, they oftentimes have positive messages, such as the normalization and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community through characters such as Big Gay Al (Matt Stone).

Conclusion

The first season of an iconic American cartoon.
