Review

In the second season of Squid Game, traumatized by his experiences in the last season, Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is obsessed with exposing and ending the games. He eventually rejoins the game in an attempt to end it from within.

Season 2 brings some returning faces but mainly a brand new cast of characters. There are some twists, such as Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) joining the games undercover and the attempts of a gang of mercenaries led by Mr. Choi (Jeon Seok-ho) and Detective Huang (Wi Ha-joon) trying to find the island where the games are taking place. There are some very memorable characters such as the fallen rapper Thanos (T.O.P) and the transgender woman Cho Hyun-ju (Park Sung-hoon). While there are several games, this season focuses much more on what happens outside of the games. Outside of the stories of the contestants, I do find the story of the guard Kang No-eul (Park Gyu-young) pretty interesting but the storyline surrounding the group looking for the island is very dull and feels like a distraction. This season does end on a cliffhanger so I am looking forward to season 3 being released later this year.

Conclusion

A slower season that sets up the next season.
