You all realize we're going to die truly a horrible death.

Perhaps, sister. But we'll die gloriously. And we'll kill a fucking dragon.

Review

I am completely out of the loop on Critical Role but from my understanding they're a group of professional voice actors who play Dungeons & Dragons together. This show is based on some of their earlier campaigns. The story follows Vox Machina, a group of adventurers: the half-elf siblings Vex (Laura Bailey) and Vax (Liam O'Brien), their grizzly bear pet Trinket (Matthew Mercer), the gnome cleric Pike (Ashley Johnson), the human gunslinger Percy (Taliesin Jaffe), the half-elf druid Keyleth (Marisha Ray), the gnome bard Scanlan (Sam Riegel), and the goliath barbarian Grog (Travis Willingham).

Having never watched any of Critical Role's playing sessions, the story is brand new to me. The plots follow typical fantasy fiction tropes such as slaying dragons and revenge of the prodigal son against the enemies of his family. Being professional voice actors, the voicing is fantastic and each of the members of Vox Machina are memorable in their own right, despite the larger group size. The character development for each character, while varied in depth, are well-executed. The animation is well-done and I especially liked the character effects, such as Percy's revenge scenes.

Conclusion

A boisterous and fun D&D cartoon with great voice acting.
