My world does not end with these four walls. Slough’s a big place. When I’ve finished with Slough, there’s Reading, Aldershot, Bracknell. Didcot, Yateley. You know. Winnersh. Taplow. Because I am my own boss. Burghfield.
Previous The Office review:
The second (and technically last) series of the British The Office continues the antics of the first season. Most of the cast returns for the second series, including the pompous boss David Brent (Ricky Gervais), the relatable Tim (Martin Freeman), and the socially-inept Gareth (Mackenzie Crook). New characters include David’s new boss Neil (Patrick Baladi) and Tim’s girlfriend Rachel (Stacey Roca).
The same awkward humour continues from the first series but I found the second series to not be as lighthearted as the first. In typical British fashion, the second series unfolds almost like a tragedy where the main characters endure defeat after defeat with no end in sight. The delta between the British and American versions of the show is evident as ever; if you’re looking for the moments of warmth and camaraderie from the American show, you won’t find any here.
Almost nihilistic office comedy.
