The point of Biggles, and of Sherlock Holmes, is to solve crimes and kill Germans, and by heavens that should be enough for any man!

Review

In the fictional English town of Gasforth, Inspector Fowler (Rowan Atkinson) is an stiff and old-fashioned policeman who leads a group of constables in a series of misadventures.

Atkinson is one my favourite comedic actors and it's refreshing to see him take on a more stiff, albeit still very funny character. The humour is classic British sitcom, including a balance of satire and slapstick, and holds up well even today. The cast is very strong, especially the hilariously obnoxious Detective Inspector Grim (David Haig). The characters also play off eachother, such as the straight woman Constable Habib (Mina Anwar) who serves as a character foil to the more flamboyant and simple Constable Goody (James Dreyfus). The plotlines are low stakes but (mostly) resolve in a warm happy ending.

Conclusion

While the production value is on the lower end, it's still a warm and fun British sitcom.
