Previous Jack Ryan review:
In season 2, Jack Ryan (John Krasinski) is now an aide to US Senator Moreno (Benito Martinez). On a diplomatic mission to Venezuela to meet President Reyes (Jordi Mollà), Senator Moreno is assassinated and Jack stays in Venezuela to investigate the conspiracy.
Overall season 2 feels much weaker than season 1; the characters are thinner and the nuance is stripped from the story, leaving the main plot a generic good versus bad spy thriller. Krasinski’s Jack is much more mature in season 2 but still makes many amateurish mistakes, which leaves many plot holes. The side stories, such as the one involving Harry (Noomi Rapace) and Max (Tom Wlaschiha), as well as the one with Uber (Jovan Adepo), overpromises and underdelivers, and are a distraction at best. I did like some of the new characters such as Michael Kelly’s Mike November, though. The action scenes are pretty exciting as well.
A generic spy thriller.
