Review

My girlfriend and I have drastically different TV tastes but this show is one of the few that fit in the center of our TV Venn diagram (she likes spy stuff for some reason). The story follows Jack Ryan (John Krasinski), a CIA analyst who tries to prevent a plot by a well-organized Middle Eastern terrorist Suleiman (Ali Suliman).

I actually quite enjoyed the season with its thrilling action scenes and various plot twists. Krasinski’s Jack is a textbook boy scout type of character which makes a great foil for his superior James Greer (Wendell Pierce), a more seasoned and pragmatic CIA officer. I did like Krasinski’s character development and the supporting characters, which includes Abbie Cornish’s Cathy Mueller, Suliman’s Suleiman, and Dina Shihabi’s Hanin, were fantastic as well. I especially liked the nuanced portrayal of terrorism and some of the side stories involving the drone pilot Victor (John Magaro) and Tony (Numan Acar).

Conclusion

A spy thriller with a nuanced depiction of terrorism.
