This is another manga series by Hiro Mashima that takes place in a fantastical world filled with magic. The story follows Natsu Dragneel, a fire Dragon Slayer mage who is a member of the Fairy Tail wizarding guild. The plot follows Natsu and his companions as they embark on missions to stop the return of the dark wizard Zeref.
Reading this after Rave Master, it’s clear that Mashima has continued to hone his craft as a mangaka. The art style and story are both more developed and matured, but despite this, this series still feels targeted at a more juvenile demographic. Many of the same themes as Rave Master carry over, including the emphasis on friendship and the stories of redemption where former enemies become friends. There are even some character cameos from Rave Master. Yes the plot feels generic and the stories predictable. Despite this, it’s still a fun manga series with a positive message.
