You never heard the saying, never rob a bank across from a diner with the best donuts in three counties?

Review

Bobby (Denzel Washington) and Stig (Mark Wahlberg) are two criminals working together. Unbeknownst to one another, Bobby is working undercover for the DEA while Stig is undercover for US Naval Intelligence. The two rob a bank in order to hurt Mexican drug lord Papi Greco (Edward James Olmos) but they quickly realize the heist is more than what they bargained for when, instead of the predicted $3 million, they steal $43 million.

Like all good buddy cop comedies, the chemistry between the buddy cops is paramount. To that effect, Washington and Wahlberg have great chemistry with witty banter and the friendship between the two develops throughout the film. Washington’s Bobby is stoic but has swagger while Wahlberg’s Stig reminds me of Wahlberg’s character from Four Brothers, who is hot-headed and impulsive. The two characters serve as decent foils for one another. The story is OK, albeit a tad predictable. From the supporting cast, Olmos’ Papi Greco and James Marsden’s Quince had some good scenes in the film. Paula Patton’s Deb exists largely for sex appeal while Bill Paxton’s Earl is a ruthless and psychopathic interrogator.

Conclusion

A fun action film that's simple but has its moments.
