Review

“Para bellum” is Latin for “prepare for war” and in this movie, John Wick (Keanu Reeves), on the run, faces the full might of the High Table. New characters are introduced, such as the cold and precise Adjudicator (Asia Kate Dillon), the hot-blooded Sofia (Halle Berry), and the master assassin Zero (Mark Dacascos). Returning characters such as Winston (Ian McShane), Charon (Lance Reddick), and the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) get more screen time.

This film has the characteristic violent and snappy fight scenes from the previous movies. The choreography, lighting, and cinematography are very engaging. The editing of the film is also very polished and the character designs are very interesting. Reeves’ performance as a laconic Wick is amazing as always. Supporting roles such as McShane’s cunning Winston, Dillon’s efficient Adjudicator, and Fishburne’s dramatic Bowery King all add to the drama.

While it’s interesting to dive more into the lore of the underworld and the High Table and there were some novel action scenes, this film did not feel as satisfying as the prior two films as the plot is much weaker.

Conclusion

Not as good good as the prior two films but still very entertaining.
