Review

I remember being underwhelmed when I first saw this in the theater. Rewatching this in 2020, however, I must say it's probably one of my favourite Star Wars movies. The story leads up directly to Episode IV and follows Jyn Erso, the daughter of Galen Erso, the designer of the Death Star. Jyn teams up with the Rebel Alliance to both rescue her father and save the Rebellion.

I genuinely liked the characters; K-2SO is perhaps my favourite droid in all the films and Donnie Yen is amazing as Chirrut Îmwe, the blind temple guardian from Jedha. Rogue One is perhaps the darkest Star Wars film since the ending of Episode III; the film felt much more mature than most Star Wars films and the cinematography made excellent use of the lighting contrast to display both despair and hope.

Conclusion

Amazing addition to the Star Wars trilogies.
