A wise man can learn more from his enemies than a fool from his friends.
Previous Ron Howard reviews:
Rush details the legendary rivalry between Formula One rivals James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl). The film explores Hunt and Lauda’s backgrounds and focuses on the dramatic 1976 F1 season.
The charismatic Hunt and the stoic Lauda make perfect foils for one another. The dangerous sport of F1 makes for an exciting backdrop for the two’s rivalry. The script is very tight and the pacing of the film is superb. Both the editing and cinematography give this film a nostalgic retro look and feel. I also like how the film gives screentime to supporting characters outside the track, such as the partners of the two rivals as well as fellow drivers (although only Pierfrancesco Favino’s Regazzoni got any real screentime).
Fast-paced drama about a legendary sports rivalry.
