Review

CIA officer Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) and former lawyer turned assassin Alejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro) return as the US cracks down on cartels for smuggling terrorists into the US from Mexico. Graver and Gillick try to instigate a cartel war by kidnapping Isabella Reyes (Isabela Merced), the daughter of a cartel boss.

The story is interesting, in particular the latter half where the film portrays the human trafficking activities of the cartel near the Mexican border. Gillick’s journey with Isabella trying to cross the American border is one of my favourite parts of the film. While the suspense and action scenes aren’t as well done as the first film, this movie is still a decent cartel thriller.

Conclusion

A decent sequel but not as memorable as the original.
