Review

Based on the Hong Kong film Internal Affairs and loosely based on the Boston Winter Hill Gang, the story follows the cat and mouse game between the Irish Mob and the Boston PD. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Costigan, a deep undercover police officer within the Irish Mob, while Matt Damon plays Sullivan, a mole in the Boston PD for the Irish Mob.

The story and writing are both phenomenal and the entire film has some interesting themes and motifs surrounding identity and crime. The story is very complex yet told in a very straightforward manner. The twists and turns of the plot are tasteful and the suspense is palpable. The Bostonian dialogue is some of the best I’ve heard in crime films. DiCaprio is amazing in his breadth of expression and his supporting cast, which includes Damon’s Sullivan and Jack Nicholson’s Frank are remarkable as well.

Conclusion

Well-executed crime drama.
