Review

Denzel Washington returns as Robert McCall, the former intelligence officer who now works as a Lyft driver. McCall continues to help those who need his assistance with his close friend and former DIA colleague Susan Plummer (Melissa Leo). When Plummer is murdered, McCall tries to uncover the mystery behind her murder and hunt down those responsible.

The story is decent but not as satisfying as that of the first film. The sequel also had less action sequences as its predecessor but the film does well to build up the suspense and pressure in each scene. There are still some brutal scenes, such as the one with the finance bros. Washington is fantastic in the role of McCall and the supporting cast is pretty solid as well. I especially like Ashton Sanders’ Miles, a young and naive teenager that McCall mentors, who reminds me of Sanders role in Moonlight.

Conclusion

Not as brutal and visceral as the first film, but still pretty solid.
