Past The Expendables film review:

Review

The Expendables crew is back and this time new members are added, including Liam Hemsworth’s rookie Billy the Kid and Nan Yu’s Maggie Chan, a technical expert sent by the Expendables’ employer, Church (Bruce Willis). The Expendables are tasked with retrieving a package from a downed airplane in Albania but their mission goes awry.

The story is not the main focus of the film, but it is a bit better than the story in the first film. There is more of a plot with some more nuance. The characters are good and Yu’s Maggie is a refreshing break from the usually testosterone-filled team. The acting is the same as the first film, although I do like that the sequel doesn’t take itself as seriously as the first film, as it’s filled with various references to pop culture and older action films. Jean-Claude Van Damme plays the villain, whose name (I’m not making this up) is Vilain and his sidekick, Hector, is played by Scott Adkins (the guy who I know from many Chinese movies). Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Trench and new addition Chuck Norris’ Booker also get decent screen time.

Conclusion

A sequel that doesn't take itself as seriously.
