Review

Based on the 1964 TV series with the same name, the story follows CIA agent Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) in 1963 as he’s forced to work with his KGB rival Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer) in order to prevent Nazi sympathizers building their own nuclear weapon.

As with all buddy cop films, the chemistry between the two buddies is crucial. Cavill and Hammer don’t disappoint; the two nail the archetype of the rivals turned allies and make good foils for one another. The supporting cast, which includes Alicia Vikander’s Gaby, Elizabeth Debicki’s Victoria, and Sylvester Groth’s Uncle Rudi, are solid as well. The aesthetics of the film is fantastic, and both the character and set designs are reminiscent of the chic 1960s. The story is predictable but fun and the script is filled with charismatic one-liners.

Conclusion

Unlikely as it is, I hope there will be a sequel.
