As you walk through the main entrance of the base, you hear animal-like growls echoing throughout the distant corridors. They know you're here. There's no turning back now.

Review

This is another influential first-person shooter. This time the player plays in the role of a space marine unofficially known as Doomguy. The player has to fight through hordes of demons to survive.

The game feels like an upgraded Wolfenstein 3D with many of the same mechanics such as the pseudo-3D graphics and much of the same UI. The upgrade comes in many forms. Doom has much better graphics, more unique enemy design, and more gameplay features.

The levels are no longer flat; there are often many floors with elements such as toxic pools and hidden passages. There are also many more weapons and more interesting player power-ups which can be collected and used. The aim is still only two-directional but the player movement is much smoother. The music, which consists of heavy metal, helps set the mood for the carnage and mayhem. There is also multiplayer; one can complete the missions cooperatively or one can battle other players.

Conclusion

A truly iconic first-person shooter.

DLC Review

Thy Flesh Consumed

The only DLC for the original Doom continues the story of Doomguy, who now is teleported to Earth only to find that demons have already invaded. While the game has the same enemies and mechanics of the main game, it has some of the toughest levels in the entire game.
