After playing games like It Takes Two and Overcooked! 2 , my girlfriend and I were looking for the next couch co-op game when we stumbled across this gem. The two players each assume the role of a kiwi bird who is tasked with operating a post office. The various levels involve the two players working together to accomplish tasks, such as typing letters and sending out parcels. Of course, there are twists in every level, which keeps the gameplay interesting.
Working together to run a postal station
I really enjoyed the puzzle and platforming elements of the game. The levels are well-designed and (for an indie game) pretty polished. I did encounter some bugs which hampered some levels but the levels are short (a few minutes each), so restarting a level is not an insane waste of time. The gameplay is pretty thoughtful and I really liked the co-op elements, where some levels demand two players working together to accomplish the objectives.
Working together to advance through a level
As with the Overcooked! games, my favourite aspects of KeyWe is the strategic planning of the levels, where players try to come up with strategies to succeed. It’s always fun iterating on strategies until one can get perfect on each level. The game is pretty charming and while not as lengthy as the Overcooked! games, does have a decent amount of content, including mini-games on top of the levels. Some of the later levels did feel like it was rushed out as there were more bugs and there is a full season missing, but overall it’s a solid effort from an indie team.
Mini-games on top of the levels
An enjoyable co-op experience; shame that the PC DLC never made it to the consoles.
