I made a vow to have peace, no matter how many people I have to kill to get it.

Review

The first DC Extended Universe TV show follows Christopher Smith (John Cena) AKA Peacemaker from The Suicide Squad. After the events of the film, Smith is assigned to a new black ops squad to tackle the mysterious Project Butterfly.

I like how the superhero genre is taking itself less seriously and this show is an excellent example. The core story is decent if not clichéd, but the execution and the writing are both top notch. The character development, especially of Cena's Peacemaker, is well-executed and Cena's exaggerated wrestling persona also works incredibly well for this character. The core cast, which includes Peacemaker's (human) best friend Vigilante (Freddie Stroma), Peacemaker's father (Robert Patrick), and Peacemaker's teammates, are all interesting and archetypal in a comic book way. Some of the subplots are more exciting than others, and overall the show feels almost like a surreal fever dream.

Conclusion

I like how DC allowed James Gunn to expand on his sense of humour.
