Review

I saw the exhibit Fantastic Beasts: The Wonder of Nature at ROM last year and since then, I’ve always wanted to read the supplement Wizarding World books.

I’ve finally had the chance to pick up Fantastic Beasts and it’s an extremely quick read. The book is written as how it would have appeared within the Wizarding World. It’s an encyclopedia of different magical beasts, which includes their characteristics and interesting facts. Many of the beasts are based on different mythologies around the world and many of them appeared in the mainline Harry Potter novels.

The book is fun to read and includes notes written by Harry Potter. There is no overarching narrative and I found the notes by Harry to be a tad pointless. Despite this, it’s a creative compendium to the mainline Harry Potter series.

Conclusion

Unique book further exploring the Wizarding World.
