Review

This is a companion book to Frank Miller’s seminal 300. The book tells the prequel story of Xerxes’ father, Darius, as Darius tries to conquer Athens. The book also tells the story of the eventual fall of the Persian empire and the rise of Alexander the Great.

To be honest, the story feels like superficial vignettes with poorly flushed out plots and characters. The art is decent and Alex Sinclair’s coloring helps with the artstyle. I do still like Miller’s dramatic writing but the book feels like a cash grab without the soul that’s in so many of Miller’s earlier works.

Conclusion

Kind of scattered and very mediocre.
