I think the world might be ending. And I think there's a slice of Patsy's sitting up there that's the last that'll ever exist. And I'm gonna get it.

Review

This is the second film I watched on my flight to LA. In this spin-off prequel film from the A Quiet Place franchise, the protagonist is Sam (Lupita Nyong'o), a terminally ill cancer patient who lives in a hospice with her cat. One day, on a group outing to a play in Manhattan, meteors carrying aliens who hunt by sound fall from the sky.

Honestly, based on the trailers, I expected more background on the alien invasion but the story is just the same context as the first two films, but taking place with a different set of characters. Sam and her companion Eric (Joseph Quinn) make their way through Manhattan while trying to avoid the aliens. The story is not only repetitive, but also riddled with various plot holes. Furthermore, the thrilling scenes with the aliens get old if one has already watched the first two films. Nyong'o is fantastic though, and so is Quinn’s Eric; one of the best scenes I've seen this year in films is the tender moment the two characters share in a bar.

Conclusion

No new ground is broken with this film, but if one needs a quick fix it's a decent watch, especially if one likes cats.
