Look at me. I'm Black Superman!
Previous Fast & Furious reviews:
In this spin-off Fast & Furious film, a retired Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) teams up with ex-MI6 agent Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) to rescue Shaw’s sister Hattie (Vanessa Kirby), an MI6 agent who is on the run with a deadly virus. At the same time, Hattie is also being hunted by Brixton (Idris Elba), a cyborg operative working for the techno-terrorist organization Eteon.
This film is corny but entertaining. Expect over-the-top action sequences mixed with tons of banter between perhaps the greatest bald action film pair. The plot is almost entirely nonsensical (and secondary) but Elba’s killer cyborg is very badass and while the Samoa arc feels out of place, it was cool seeing a cameo by Roman Reigns. The supporting cast which includes Cliff Curtis, Eiza González, and Eddie Marsan were solid in their roles. There were also some comedic cameos from Kevin Hart and Ryan Reynolds.
A fun car action movie with a cyborg as the main antagonist.
