Review

I really liked this movie; I found it really captured much of the gloomy atmosphere of the book. The only major difference (which I thought the film missed out on) is the conflict near the end; the film cut out many parts which, when I was reading the book, I felt would look excellent on screen.

What really stood out for me is the casting decisions; Imelda Staunton as Dolores, Evanna Lynch as Luna, and Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix are perhaps some of the best casting decisions made throughout the entire film series (alongside Alan Rickman as Snape). The special effects were also very good; while reading the book, I was curious what a thestral looked like, and the film did an excellent job illustrating a being which is both surreal and melancholic.

The film also included sequences (such as the montage of Harry training with Dumbledore's Army) and subtle details (such as Sirius accidentally calling Harry "James") which I don't recall reading in the book. Such small additions both enhanced and enriched the story.

Conclusion

My favourite Harry Potter film so far.
