You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun, Kal. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders.
Previous DC Universe film reviews:
In the live-action retelling of the backstory for one of the most iconic superheroes, Henry Cavill takes up the mantle of Kal-El, one of the last survivors of the dying planet Krypton. Sent to Earth when he was a baby by his father Jor-El (Russell Crowe), Kal grew up in Kansas as Clark Kent, concealing his real identity. When the Kryptonian General Zod (Michael Shannon) threatens Earth, Kal-El/ Clark Kent must rise up to defend humanity.
The casting is excellent; Cavill is phenomenal as Superman because he resembles the comic book hero so much physically. The story is very faithful to the lore and it's cool to see a depiction of Krypton. There are definitely many plot holes but it’s to be expected for a superhero film. The character designs are decent albeit the character development is a tad lacking. I did enjoy the foil between Shannon’s Zod and Crowe’s Jor, though. The dialogue is corny and the film is filled with explosive special effects and expensive action sequences. The cinematography is not my favourite; the shaky camera work makes the film feel like a generic Michael Bay blockbuster at times.
A solid reimagining of a classic character.
