Review

The theme of betrayal continues from Season 3; the Axe (Damian Lewis) and Chuck (Paul Giamatti) alliance predictably starts cracking and both Axe and Chuck have to deal with betrayals by their most trusted allies.

This season shows the worst of all characters, Wendy (Maggie Siff) betrays a client, Chuck betrays Wendy, and Axe is hellbent on revenge at all costs. Typically there’s at least one main character I can sympathize with but I found that in this season, none of the characters were likable.

One aspect of this season that I did like was the heavy foreshadowing and display of Axe’s ruthlessness and arrogance. I felt that all characters went through some dramatic character development, some, like Axe, for the worse, but some, like Wendy, for the better. I felt overall this season felt a bit more sensationalist than the previous seasons, pushing plot twist after plot twist and having ridiculous side stories.

Conclusion

The continuation of the same conflict but more sensationalist and almost overly dramatic.
