Once is a coincidence, twice is a fucking problem.
Previous Goliath reviews:
Billy McBride (Billy Bob Thornton) takes on a new challenge, this time for the death of his longtime friend Bobbi (Sherilyn Fenn) who fell into a sinkhole on her property. Billy faces off against billionaire almond farmer Wade Blackwood (Dennis Quaid) and his eccentric sister Diana (Amy Brenneman).
Honestly, this season took the weirdness to a whole new level. The main case is actually pretty interesting, but the side stories which feature a weird relationship between Wade and Diana and the various drug-induced montages, feel excessive and take away from the main plot. Some of the more interesting side stories, such as that of the Get Out-esque creepy twins Anton and Dario (Shamier Anderson) don’t get fully flushed out and instead the show focuses on less exciting side stories such as that of Billy’s daughter Denise (Diana Hopper). The pacing is also on the slower end and many episodes feel like filler content. The constant switching of different timelines also throws off the pace of the story.
Thornton’s McBride is still amazing and Nina Arianda’s Patty Solis-Papagian is great as well. Other returning characters, such as Lauren Tom’s Janet and Tania Raymonde’s Brittany Gold, also perform their roles well. The new characters, such as the Blackwoods, Shelby Rabara’s Sumi Sen, and Graham Greene’s Littlecrow, are amazing. Other new characters, such as Julia Jones’s Stephanie, feel like filler characters that have been shoehorned into the narrative to pad it up.
Interesting characters and premise but weird execution.
