Review

Series 2 builds upon the last series; it’s perhaps my favourite season of the show with some of the strongest episodes, not only from this show but from all television shows. I also like how the series continues to nod to the original source material, such as (finally) giving Sherlock his signature deerstalker hat.

A Scandal in Belgravia

Based off of A Scandal in Bohemia, this episode introduces The Woman, Irene Adler (Lara Pulver). Pulver’s Adler is charming, manipulative, but also vulnerable at times. She has great chemistry with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock. This episode is truly beautiful, with its tight script, cerebral cinematography, and tasteful soundtrack. The ending is perhaps one of my favourite endings of any episode in any TV show.

The Hounds of Baskerville

Based on the novel with almost the same name , Holmes and Watson (Martin Freeman) assist a man (Russell Tovey) in solving the mysterious death of his father near the Baskerville military testing site. This one feels more like a classic mystery thriller and the reimagining of the classic tale for the modern world is very creative.

The Reichenbach Fall

Based on The Final Problem this is another phenomenal episode where the conflict between Sherlock and Moriarty (Andrew Scott) comes to heads. Scott plays the perfect Moriarty who is sarcastic, sinister, and insane. The script of this episode is surprisingly deep with tons of room for both Cumberbatch and Scott to shine in their respective roles.

Conclusion

One of the most amazing series in British television history.
