I'll be honest. We're lucky if we don't burst into flames before we make it out of the harbour.

Not we.

You think you're funny?

No, your shoulder is packed straight through with banana leaves that I found in the jungle. It's gonna get infected.

Review

In the final season of Jack Ryan, John Krasinski’s Ryan is now the deputy director of the CIA. In untangling the complex operations left over by the former CIA director Miller (John Schwab), Ryan accidentally stumbles upon a global conspiracy involving CIA hit squads, Mexican cartels, and triads from Myanmar.

The story of this season feels more ambitious and much more like a spy action show than a more cerebral spy thriller of the previous seasons. Krasinski is great as Ryan and the returning cast which includes Wendell Pierce’s James Greer and Betty Gabriel’s Elizabeth Wright also play their roles well. The new characters introduced include Louis Ozawa Changchien’s triad leader Chao Fah and Michael Peña’s CIA black ops operative Domingo Chavez. Peña’s Chavez in particular has great chemistry with the returning Michael Kelly’s Mike November and I would definitely watch a spin-off of those two characters together.

As previously mentioned this season has many more exciting action sequences and shootouts and there are also some salient themes, such as the familial relationships that many of the characters have. If you’re a fan of films like Mission: Impossible, season four of Jack Ryan will probably scratch your itch. The writing, unfortunately, is still riddled with plotholes but some of the cinematography, especially from the Ettlin episodes, are pretty entertaining.

Conclusion

Season four ends with a bang.
