Review

In the fourth installment of the testosterone-filled franchise, Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) returns to lead his team of elite mercenaries. This time, they’re assigned to Libya on a mission to stop Suarto Rahmat (Iko Uwais) from stealing nuclear warheads for a mysterious criminal warlord named Ocelot.

In this film there are many new faces on the team, which includes 50 Cent’s Easy Day, Megan Fox’s Gina, and Jacob Scipio’s Galan. The new supporting cast also includes Andy Garcia’s Marsh and Tony Jaa’s Decha. I think the new additions are pretty cool, in particular Uwais and Jaa, who are both massive superstars in Southeast Asia, but haven’t received as much fanfare in the West. The plot is as generic and predictable as they come. The plot twists can be seen from a mile away and while the plot is secondary to the action, the plot was so bad that it ruined the action for me. Some of the worst dialogues I’ve seen on the big screen are in this film, such as the cringeworthy bar fight scene and the love scenes between Jason Statham’s Lee Christmas and Fox’s Gina. The main selling point of the franchse, the action scenes, were also ruined by the very dated CGI.

Conclusion

A disaster by all metrics.
