Review

Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) finds himself inside the White House during a North Korean terrorist attack. Banning must go solo and rescue President Asher (Aaron Eckhart) from the kidnappers.

This is a typical good versus evil story that reminds me of films like Die Hard, where a renegade acts alone to save the day. Unlike Die Hard, Olympus Has Fallen tries to do too much and bake in too many tropes and it comes off as corny at times. Butler’s Banning feels visceral and gritty while the supporting cast, which includes Eckhart’s Asher, Morgan Freeman’s Trumbull, and Rick Yune’s Kang, all play their roles well and accentuate Butler’s character.

Conclusion

A generic Hollywood action thriller.
