In this reboot of an iconic sci-fi franchise, Joel Kinnaman picks up the mantle of Alex Murphy, a horrifically injured police officer who becomes RoboCop, the cyborg crime-fighter.
Visually, this film is an excellent continuation of the original series, with its sleek RoboCop suit design and the cool transformation sequences. Kinnaman's performance is grounded and the supporting cast, which includes Gary Oldman's ambivalent Dr. Norton, Michael Keaton's ruthless CEO, and Samuel L. Jackson's satirical Pat Novak, are all fine, but not exceptional. The story, as with RoboCop 3 is toned down to PG-13 and optimized for mass appeal, which removed the series's iconic cynical humour and over-the-top violence.
Conclusion
Not a horrible film but too much corporate interference.
