Review

Rocky V sees Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) lose everything he's worked for due to financial mismanagement. Unable to fight due to the serious sustained injuries during his career, Rocky returns to his old Philadelphia neighbourhood to become a trainer.

This film feels much weaker, especially at the heels of Rocky IV, which was one of the stronger films in the franchise. The story is drama-heavy, and focuses on Rocky's relationships with his son Rocky Jr. (Sage Stallone) and his relationship with his new protégé Tommy Gunn (Tommy Morrison). The story feels incredibly forced, and combined with the characteristic archetypal and paper-thin characters like George Washington Duke (Richard Gant), makes for a very generic and unmemorable film.

Conclusion

Really pushing the limits on how much more Hollywood can milk a franchise.
