Review

Sin City by Frank Miller is perhaps one of my favourite comics because it’s dark and gritty but also poetic at the same time. The same essence is captured in the film adaptation, with Miller being one of the triumvirate of the film’s directors (the other two being Quentin Taratino and Robert Rodriguez). With such a stacked list of directors, one would have high expectations, and one’s expectations will be met.

The film, as with the comic, is presented in noir and even most of the film’s dialogue is taken directly from the comics. Stylistically the film is amazing, with its cold dialogue that teeters the line between cool and corny. The casting is also spectacular, Mickey Rourke’s Marv, Clive Owen’s Dwight, and Bruce Willis’ Hartigan were awesome to watch. Jessica Alba’s Nancy, Rosario Dawson’s Gail, Benicio Del Toro's Jackie Boy, and Michael Clarke Duncan’s Manute make excellent supporting characters.

Conclusion

One of the best comic adaptations ever.
