A hero can be anyone. Even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy's shoulders to let him know that the world hadn't ended.
Previous DC Universe film reviews:
In the conclusion to perhaps one of the greatest film trilogies, Christian Bale returns as playboy billionaire Bruce Wayne who is forced to don his costume once more when Gotham is faced with Bane (Tom Hardy), a former member of the League of Shadows.
As with all the Dark Knight films, the writing is very good, with poignant characters with engaging dialogue. The returning cast which include Bale’s Wayne, Gary Oldman’s Gordon, and Michael Caine’s Alfred, are all solid. The new characters such as Hardy’s Bane, Anne Hathaway’s Selina, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake are introduced but their characters are not fully developed, probably because of the ensemble cast and the deep core plot. Marion Cotillard’s Miranda Tate is also a bit corny. The lighting and cinematography are both fantastic as well, conveying a gritty and dark Gotham.
Overall, I still liked The Dark Knight more than The Dark Knight Rises, mainly due to Heath Ledger’s iconic Joker and the more nuanced plot in The Dark Knight. The Dark Knight Rises is still an excellent film, though. One of my favourite scenes of the entire franchise is the one with the hole, which conveys significant themes and symbolisms.
An amazing conclusion to an amazing trilogy.
