If we get jammed up, we're holding court on the street.
In this Bostonian crime thriller, a bank robber (Ben Affleck) develops feelings for one of the victims of his prior robberies (Rebecca Hall). His new affection affects his professional life as his crew plans to rob Fenway Park.
This film is aggressively Bostonian, filled with heavy accents and local shots from the Charlestown neighbourhood. Affleck’s Doug and Hall’s Claire are decent and have good chemistry but the various excellent supporting cast members, such as Jon Hamm’s FBI agent, Blake Lively’s Kris, and Pete Postlethwaite’s Florist, are what makes this film great. My favourite is probably Jeremy Renner’s hot headed but loyal Gem; I’ve always associated Renner with his role as Hawkeye but his performance here really tops his role in the MCU.
This film's story includes elements of the camaraderie from Good Will Hunting mixed with the criminal elements in The Departed. While the characters and stories are not as good as that of either film, The Town is still a decent character-driven thriller.
Good acting but a mediocre story.
