Review

In this newest season Axe (Damian Lewis) encounters a new foe, Mike Prince (Corey Stoll) who is as intelligent and as cunning as Axe. Prince and his sidekick Scooter (Daniel Breaker) are refined while Axe and his sidekick Wags (David Costabile) are crass, and the contrast makes for entertaining scenes when the two sides clash. Chuck (Paul Giamatti) is still in the game and sides with Prince to crush Axe.

The pettiness and melodrama are turned to an extreme when Axe tries an aggressive maneuver; while the maneuver doesn’t really make sense logically, it is an important plot device which leads to the ultimate outcome of the season.

I felt the ending was a bit abrupt and slightly unsatisfactory; I also found the constant table-turning to be a bit stale. Nevertheless, this show still has its moments.

Conclusion

More table-turning and melodrama.
