Review

In this college teenage drama taking place in the fictional Godolkin University, a group of friends try to uncover a secret hidden on their campus. Unfortunately, this drama takes place in the universe of The Boys and the secret is much darker than the group of friends have imagined.

The core story follows a group of students at God U with unique superpowers. The group members include Marie (Jaz Sinclair), who can control blood, Andre (Chance Perdomo - RIP), who has magnetokinesis, Emma (Lizze Broadway), who can alter her size by eating or throwing up, Cate (Maddie Phillips), who can control minds, and Jordan (London Thor and Derek Luh), who can shift genders, with each gender having a unique power. The group is looped into a conspiracy when their friend Golden Boy (Patrick Schwarzenegger), the number one ranked superhero in the school, murders the renowned Professor Brink (Clancy Brown) before killing himself.

The story is a tad predictable but does capture the macabre, almost unbelievable dystopian feel of the main TV series as well as the dark humour. I particularly like how they included one of my characters from the comics, Tek Knight (Derek Wilson), who has an affinity for holes. The acting is decent, with my favourite being Broadway’s Emma. The script is definitely blunt but there are some great moments, especially between Perdomo's Andre and his father, Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas). Unlike many of the superhero characters from The Boys, the main cast are mostly likeable with interesting and unique backstories.

Conclusion

A really solid spin-off.
