Review

I have now officially a Potterhead, having finished all the Harry Potter books and films; I even did the quizzes on Wizarding World (Gryffindor for my house and dolphin for my Patronus). This film was an excellent conclusion to the main Harry Potter franchise. Unlike Part 1, which was painfully slow, Part 2 is much more exciting; Yates did an excellent job balancing the pace, with moments of serenity and hope in-between moments of action and excitement.

While the film leaves out some peripheral details in the book, such as Dumbledore's backstory, and skimps over impactful details from the book such as certain characters' deaths, I felt that the film overall captured the essence of the book. The atmosphere of hope and determination is perfectly captured in the film and the moving scene of Harry's catharsis is excellently portrayed. The acting, as with Part 1, is incredible; it is clear that the cast gave it their all for the last film; on top of the three main protagonists, Ralph Fiennes as an unstable Voldemort and Alan Rickman as an emotional Snape were both equally exceptional.

The special effects and the cinematography are also spectacular; they both preserved the magical essence of the Harry Potter series while being more mature. As with the book, this film felt like a fitting conclusion to the main Harry Potter franchise.

Conclusion

While this film is not perfect, it's an excellent film nevertheless.
