In the stunning conclusion to the original Spider-Man trilogy, Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) faces off various threats at once. The threats include his best friend, Harry Osborn (James Franco), who has taken up the mantle of the New Goblin and Flint Marko (Thomas Haden Church), the murderer of Uncle Ben, who has now escaped from prison and obtained superpowers. Peter must also navigate his tumultuous romantic life with Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) and his stagnant career at the Daily Bugle when challenged by hotshot photographer Eddie Brock (Topher Grace). This is all while Parker deals with a new identity crisis caused by an alien symbiote.

If the plot sounds too busy, it’s because it is. The story feels very contrived with too many plot points and too little time. The nuance of the film suffers greatly; for instance, the dialogue is very straightforward and the character development for the villains is almost nonexistent. Maguire gives a meme-worthy performance as Peter Parker, whose role is corny and bordered on cringeworthy at times. Church’s Marko is actually pretty decent. The CGI and action feel more modern than the previous two films and overall the film provides a good bookend to the trilogy.

Conclusion

A meme-worthy conclusion to the original Spider-Man trilogy.
