Review

Season 8 is the first season without Steve Carrell’s iconic Michael Scott. This season sees Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) taking the reins as manager and the introduction of new characters from corporate such as the mysterious Robert California (James Spader) and the British Nellie Bertram (Catherine Tate).

This season definitely suffers from the absence of Carrell’s Michael who was the emotional core of the cast. While Helms’ Andy does have his moments, such as his wager with the sales staff and his desire to be everyone’s friend, some of Andy’s major plotlines, such as his on and off relationship with Erin (Ellie Kemper) was very dry. There were some very memorable storylines, such as the trivia night, Robert California’s pool party, and the launch of the Sabre Store, but there were also many unmemorable and unfunny filler episodes.

Conclusion

Hard to fill the gap left by Steve Carrell.
