Review

This is the final collection of Sherlock Holmes cases. There are twelve stories in this collection, featuring interesting cases involving vampires and mysterious deaths.

People often say this is the weakest Sherlock Holmes short story collection, and to a certain extent I see their point. Doyle himself declared that this would be the final Sherlock Holmes stories that he will ever write and I personally think he was tired of Holmes and Watson while writing this collection. Despite this, the stories are very solid. Doyle does try to switch up his style a bit, such as changing the narrative voice to third person and from the perspective of Holmes instead of Watson. Honestly, I enjoyed this collection just as much as the earlier ones, and I appreciate Doyle’s efforts in finishing the Sherlock Holmes literary canon strongly and trying to keep the series fresh.

Conclusion

Doyle's Sherlock Holmes swan song finishes strong.
